BYD’s luxury electric sub-brand, Denza, is preparing to launch its first model in India as a completely built unit (CBU) with the arrival of the Z9 GT on November 13. This all-electric shooting brake merges aggressive sports performance with estate-like practicality, targeting a segment where few alternatives exist. The vehicle represents Denza’s first foray into the Indian market, offering a rare fusion of high-speed capability and everyday usability.
Built on BYD’s e3 platform, the Z9 GT serves as the brand’s flagship, combining a low-slung sports car stance with the cargo flexibility of a wagon. Its design emphasizes aerodynamics and presence, featuring a long hood, sloping roofline, and a wide rear section. Exterior highlights include split LED headlamps with adaptive beams, flush door handles, and 21-inch alloy wheels paired with contrasting brake calipers. The full-width LED tail lamps and sculpted contours contribute to a 5,180 mm length and a 3,125 mm wheelbase, providing both a commanding road presence and expanded boot space compared to traditional sports cars.
The cabin emphasizes cutting-edge technology and opulence, with a large central touchscreen infotainment system accompanied by a passenger display. Premium leather upholstery envelops the interior, while front and rear seats offer electric adjustments, ventilation, and massage functions. Extended leg rests enhance rear passenger comfort, and a 20-speaker Devialet audio system delivers premium sound. Digital ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors) and ambient lighting with 128 color options further raise the luxury experience. An integrated cooling and heating compartment ensures climate control for both passengers and cargo.
The Z9 GT’s performance is underpinned by a three-motor setup—one at the front and two at the rear—generating 1,156 PS and a claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.7 seconds. The e3 platform incorporates advanced motion control, including active rear-wheel steering that enables maneuvers like the “Crab Walk” (diagonal movement) and a 360-degree Compass Turn. This system reduces the turning radius for a vehicle of its size while improving stability at high speeds.

Power comes from BYD’s next-generation Blade Battery 2.0, paired with the brand’s Flash ultra-fast charging technology.
Safety is reinforced through ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), including emergency braking and stability management. Two standout features are Low-Adhesion Surface Stabilisation, which adjusts motor torque for better traction on slippery surfaces, and High-Speed Blowout Stability, designed to maintain control during tire failures at raised speeds. These systems address critical safety concerns for high-speed electric vehicles.
The Z9 GT will enter the Indian market alongside the Denza D9, an electric MPV. Pricing for the Z9 GT is anticipated to range between ₹1.2 crore and ₹1.5 crore (ex-showroom), placing it in a premium niche where direct competitors are scarce. Its blend of performance, luxury, and practicality could reshape expectations for electric vehicles in India, appealing to buyers who prioritize both sportiness and functionality.
