Denza delays high-end electric shooting brake for Australia - denza z9 gt
The N9, a full-size plug-in hybrid crossover SUV, has earned Australian Design Rule certification but does not yet have a confirmed release date.

The Denza Z9 GT, an electric shooting brake designed for high performance, will not reach Australia until early 2027, the brand announced in its latest update. This postponement follows an earlier target of the third quarter of 2026. A Denza Australia representative explained the change stems from adjusting business priorities, describing the model as a key product for brand growth that requires careful timing for its introduction.

Denza’s current Australian lineup centers on three models set for delivery this year: the B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs, alongside the D9 electric people mover. The N9, a full-size plug-in hybrid crossover SUV, has earned Australian Design Rule certification but does not yet have a confirmed release date. Unlike the more mainstream B5 and B8, the Z9 GT, which competes with the Porsche Taycan, is expected to sell in smaller quantities due to its specialized electric wagon positioning.

The Z9 GT’s technical details remain impressive. It is equipped with a tri-motor all-wheel drive system, consisting of one 230kW front motor and two 310kW rear motors, for a combined output of 850kW. Power is supplied by a 122.5kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a claimed range of 1,036 kilometers under the CLTC cycle. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and supports peak DC fast-charging at 1,500kW, aligning with BYD’s upcoming Flash ultra-fast charging network. It will also be the first model in the Australian market to feature BYD’s next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology.

A plug-in hybrid version of the Z9 GT, offering a 370kW rear-wheel drive setup, a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine, and a 63.8kWh battery with a 400-kilometer CLTC range, has been confirmed for the Chinese market. Denza has not dismissed the possibility of bringing this variant to Australia if there is sufficient demand, though no final decision has been made.

The UK-market version of the Z9 GT includes advanced features such as air suspension, rear-wheel steering, a 17.3-inch touchscreen flanked by two 13.2-inch displays, a Devialet 20-speaker sound system, premium upholstery, and massaging front and rear seats. Pricing in the UK begins at £107,340 (approximately A$204,000), placing the Z9 GT above Denza’s B5 and D9 models, which start at £70,345 (~A$133,900) and £77,445 (~A$147,400), respectively. Australian pricing has not been confirmed, but the UK figures indicate the Z9 GT will occupy the premium tier of Denza’s lineup.
