The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport marks the second generation of this midsize SUV, which originally arrived in 2020. It’s the same vehicle as the Atlas, but slightly shorter and lower, and with two rows of seats to the Atlas’ three.
Volkswagen has revealed its all-new 2027 Atlas Cross Sport, marking the second generation of this midsize SUV. It receives new styling, more power, and more standard or available features, with the intention of giving it even more of a premium look and feel.
Its debut follows that of the equally-new 2027 Atlas, unveiled earlier this year. They’re essentially the same vehicle, but the Cross Sport is slightly shorter and lower, and has two rows of seats to the Atlas’ three rows.
Both use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, but it’s a new version with a variable-geometry turbocharger, making 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque — up from 269 hp and 273 lb-ft in the current model.
Fuel consumption numbers haven’t been released, but Volkswagen says it’s expected to be more efficient despite making more power. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission; and all-wheel drive (AWD), which VW calls 4Motion, is standard on all trims.
The revised styling includes stacked LED headlights, new hood, flush liftgate, cross-body taillights with 3D elements, and new wheel designs; and body-colour rocker panels and silver bumper accents now differentiate it from the Atlas.
New colours for 2027 are Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic, and Ascot Grey. The seats are revised for more comfort on all models, and the massage function on upper trims is improved.

New standard features include a hands-free liftgate, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming driver’s-side mirror, and dual hatch lights. Interior features, depending on trim, can include leather upholstery with microfibre inserts, 10- or 30-colour ambient lighting, and 14-speaker audio.
The entry Comfortline trim uses a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, while upper trims get a 15-inch version; and all have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The console includes a new “Driver Experience Dial,” which controls functions such as stereo volume and drive modes.
The updated two-phone wireless charger has MagSafe technology to keep the devices in place. Among the updated driver-assist technologies, the semi-automated Travel Assist can now change lanes by itself when the driver initiates it; and if the vehicle’s systems sense a medical emergency, the Cross Sport can guide itself to the side of the road.
They now receive park assist, and their enhanced adaptive cruise control can adapt its speed based on navigation guidance, such as on curves, ramps, or roundabouts. There is also a new front centre airbag, bringing the total number of airbags to seven.
As with its three-row Atlas sibling, the five-passenger Atlas Cross Sport will go on sale early in 2027, with full specifications and pricing announced closer to the date.
Some buyers may prioritize certain features, such as heated seats, which can greatly enhance the driving experience.
