Aprilia is launching a new maxi-scooter in India, the SXR GT 175. It shares its 174.7cc engine with the SR 175 but offers a larger, more touring-focused design, aiming to provide a practical alternative for riders seeking comfort over sporty performance.
A Maxi-Scooter with Italian Flair
The SXR GT 175 stands out with its traditional maxi-scooter silhouette, featuring a broad front apron and a relaxed visual appeal. Aprilia’s signature tripod LED headlamp adds a distinctive touch, while fresh color options and race-inspired graphics inject Italian flair. The new footboard design, though stylish, could be more functional.
One significant change is the switch to 14-inch wheels front and rear, replacing the previous 12-inch setup. This not only enhances the scooter’s aesthetics but also improves stability on uneven surfaces, giving it a more substantial road presence.

Familiar Power, Different Experience
The SXR GT 175 retains the SR 175’s 174.7cc, single-cylinder, three-valve, air-cooled engine, delivering 13.3PS and 14.14Nm of torque. While there’s no dramatic performance boost, the GT focuses on offering a different riding experience, emphasizing comfort and touring capabilities over speed.
The revised proportions and touring-oriented ergonomics make the GT more suitable for filtering through traffic and maintaining a steady pace over longer distances. The engine provides a sure-footed take-off and a strong rolling pull from 30-80kmph, though a full assessment of fuel efficiency requires further testing.
The SXR GT 175 incorporates modern technology, including a five-inch full-colour TFT instrument display, Bluetooth connectivity, music and call management, and turn-by-turn navigation. These features, supported by handlebar-mounted controls, enhance the riding experience, particularly for those handling unfamiliar streets. However, the two ‘Mode’ buttons primarily toggle screen options rather than adjusting ride modes, and the absence of a tachometer is notable, with the display featuring two speedometers instead.
The scooter’s updated exhaust section and braking system, featuring a 220mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a rear drum brake, contribute to its overall refinement. It’s important to note that ABS protection is limited to the front wheel, and the SXR GT 125 offers a different instrument display and CBS braking.

The SXR GT 175 prioritizes comfort with its spacious riding layout, featuring a generous seat, broad footboard, and relaxed posture. The five-position adjustable rear suspension allows riders to tailor the setup to their preferences, effectively handling rough roads. However, the foot bay position may feel cramped for taller riders, such as those around 5’9″ in height.
Underseat storage accommodates a single half-face helmet, while additional lockable front storage provides space for everyday essentials. Despite its touring-inspired design, storage capacity remains limited for extended trips.
Practicality and Pricing
Priced at Rs 1.30 lakh ex-showroom, the SXR GT 175 positions itself as a premium offering. Its combination of familiar performance, larger wheels, and modern technology makes it a compelling option for those seeking a stylish and comfortable maxi-scooter, distinguishing it from the sportier SR 175.
