The new GWM Haval H7 has entered Australian showrooms, replacing the previous single-drive hybrid with a four-model line-up that shares its platform but adds the brand’s Hi4 all-wheel-drive system.

Pricing and trim options

The entry-level Lux Hybrid AWD is listed at a drive-away price of $46,990, with a $1,000 launch discount bringing it to $45,990. The Vanta Hybrid AWD follows at $49,990.

For plug-in hybrid power, the Lux PHEV AWD starts at $50,990 and drops to $49,990 with the launch offer. The top-end Vanta PHEV AWD is priced at $53,990.

By comparison, the current Haval H6 in its top Ultra trim costs $47,490 for the hybrid and $50,990 for the PHEV, both with all-wheel drive.

Powertrains and performance

Both hybrid and plug-in versions use a 1.5-litre turbo-charged petrol engine paired with electric motors. The hybrid delivers a combined output of 182 kW and 670 Nm of torque.

The plug-in variant boosts total system power to 320 kW with the same torque figure. The battery capacity is 33.7 kWh of lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry.

GWM states the PHEV can charge from 30% to 80% in 19 minutes and offers vehicle-to-load capability up to 6 kW, enabling small appliances to run directly from the car.

WLTP testing claims a total range of 844 km for the plug-in model, with an electric-only range of 137 km. Fuel consumption figures are quoted as 7.0 L/100 km for the hybrid and 0.9 L/100 km for the plug-in.

Acceleration to 100 km/h is listed at 7.0 seconds for the hybrid and 4.9 seconds for the plug-in, reflecting the higher electric output.

Dimensions and capability

The H7 measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,950 mm wide and 1,843 mm tall, with a 2,738 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance allows a wading depth of 580 mm.

Independent suspension features MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup at the rear, complemented by a locking rear differential.

Cargo capacity is 586 L with rear seats upright and expands to 1,404 L when the seats fold. Approach, departure and breakover angles are 25°, 32° and 20° respectively.

All models include a full-size spare wheel and a braked towing capacity of 1,500 kg. Kerb weight ranges from 1,970 kg for the hybrid to 2,150 kg for the plug-in.

2027 model expansion, pricing and seating

GWM plans to add an extended-length H7 in 2027 that will include a third row of seats. The new version will join the current single-body style lineup. Drive-away prices for 2027 models are listed as $46,990 for the Lux Hybrid AWD, with a launch price of $45,990. The Vanta Hybrid AWD is set at $49,990. Lux PHEV AWD starts at $50,990, reduced to $49,990 at launch, while the Vanta PHEV AWD is priced at $53,990.

Buyers can select additional exterior finishes for $595, including Velvet Black, Emerald Green, Storm Grey gloss, and Mystic Grey satin (Vanta only). All H7s feature a black interior. Vanta variants finished in Velvet Black or Emerald Green receive a two-tone Black/Apricot interior.

Equipment, warranty and safety

Standard equipment across the range features adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Both Lux and Vanta trims receive 19-inch black alloy wheels, LED headlights, power-folding mirrors, proximity entry, launch control, eight drive modes and a 15.6-inch touchscreen running Coffee OS with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Vanta adds rear privacy glass, matte-black exterior trim, a head-up display, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and a 10-speaker audio system.

GWM backs the H7 with a seven-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, reduced to seven years or 150,000 km for rental or rideshare use.

Independent safety assessment by ANCAP has not yet been completed, but the vehicle includes seven airbags, tyre-pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and a surround-view camera.
