Gujarat has increased its electric bus fleet in Gandhinagar by deploying 30 additional Ecolife e9 models through the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. The state capital now operates a total of 70 electric buses, following the introduction of an initial batch of 40 units in June. These vehicles are managed by the Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited, a municipal transport authority.
The new buses match the specifications of the earlier models, including air conditioning, CCTV surveillance, wheelchair accessibility ramps, and electronic ticketing systems. Four seats are designated for women, identifiable by pink seat covers. Each bus accommodates 38 passengers, 25 seated and 13 standing, powered by a 210 kWh LFP battery.
Gandhinagar’s expansion plans include an additional 30 buses, bringing the total to 100. The scheme also covers seven other cities in Gujarat, with allocations including 100 units for Rajkot, 250 for Vadodara, and 100 for Bhavnagar. Gujarat’s overall order under the program totals 750 buses, contributing to India’s broader initiative to deploy 10,000 electric buses in cities with populations below four million.

Details of Gujarat’s Second-Phase E-Bus Rollout
The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, launched by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs in 2023, drives Gujarat’s second-phase rollout. Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited, a municipal-created entity, operates the fleet. The 30 added nine-metre Ecolife e9 buses come from JBM Buses and match the earlier configuration.
Each bus features a passenger information display and a 212 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor with a 210 kWh LFP battery. The scheme also allocates 50 units to Jamnagar, 50 to Junagadh, 20 to Navsari and 80 to Gandhidham.
